The has found two people from the Bahamas who departed Stuart by boat and were more than 24 hours overdue to arrive back in the Bahamas.

Sasha McPhee, and Jerome Burrows, both 37, left 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and were expected to arrive in West End, Bahamas later that day.

The Coast Guard found their yacht about 8 p.m. Thursday some 22 miles north of Freeport, officials said.

A Coast Guard HC-144 airplane crew from Air Station spotted the two boaters anchored, waving their hands and shooting flares.

The Royal Bahamas Defense Force picked up the uninjured couple and took them ashore, officials said.

The 29-foot yacht was expected to be towed to shore sometime Friday.

Why it became disabled was not immediately known.
